Karachi British Women's Group meets SARID
Piecemakers
Karachi, March 2005
The Piecemakers were honored to be invited by the
Karachi based British Women’s Group (BWG) to display our quilts
on March 8, 2005 after reading about our project in Dawn.
Our entourage consisted of Tahira Ahmed, Atiya Suhail, Salma Shakir,
Zahida and Sumera. Zahida and Sumera are two of the women from the
center whose participation in any outside event is vital to their
development as future entrepreuneurs.
The women helped display the quilts and other smaller
items (tea cozies, table runners, place mats etc.) that they had
made. They watched and listened while we made the sales. This was
their first experience and we know that they will gain confidence
with time. While these women were shy and held back initially, we
have seen them gain a lot of confidence over the months and realize
that they will achieve self reliance.
Salma was asked to talk to the BWG for a few minutes
about SARID, our mission and the various projects that we have undertaken.
Tahira, Atiya and Salma all participated in the question & answer
session afterwards.
